Moroccan Trekking Adventure

A Grand 10 day adventure tour of Morocco

Moroccan Sahara Dunes

Add Egypt, Libya and a Nile Cruise ?

Long lonely beaches, hidden coves, wild cliffs and steep shores, a superb desert landscape, a few fishing villages and desert camps, Berber nomads with their herds of sheep, goats and camels, the vast panorama of the Atlantic -- these are the highlights of this trek, designed for easy to moderate exertion (two hours daily, from 4 to 6 PM). It's a good trip for beginners as there are no long climbs or high altitudes. Our baggage is transported on camelback from camp to camp.

DAY 1 - DEPARTURE - JFK- Weekly - year round except During June, July and Aug ( too warm to travel thru the sahara)
Board your comfortable aircraft at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York for the quick (5-1/2-hour when flying Royal Air Maroc nonstop) flight across the Atlantic to Casablanca.
For West Coast Passengers : You need not to fly via JFK, you'll fly non-stop West coast to Europe then on to Morocco . Air fare add-on available from most major cities in the USA.

DAY 2 - ONWARD to MARRAKECH (D)
Upon arrival in Casablanca, you go through the entry formalities , collect your luggage , clear customs , meet our local rep. and transfer to your connecting flight to Marrakech. If there is a flight delay from Europe due to weather etc., then we continue on to Marrakech in a private air-conditioned vehicle, with your private chauffeur.
Our local rep. greets you at the airport in Marrakech and escorts you to your hotel. After settling in, there's time for a look around. Be sure to be in a good place as night falls: Winston Churchill called Marrakech "the most beautiful place in the world at sunset." Welcome dinner is included at your hotel with our compliments.

DAY 3 - ATLANTIC COAST (BLD) Your adventure continues as we drive by minibus or Land Rover westward along the Atlantic coast. Not far from the medieval walled city of Essaouira, we meet our camels and their drivers at their camp. Loading our baggage onto the camels, we head out along the beach to our first campsite by a small waterfall, with the soothing sound of the Atlantic waves one one side, and the peaceful sounds of daily life from a small Berber farming village on the other. We set up our tents, enjoy our dinner cooked al fresco, and settle into our camp beds for the night.

DAYS 4 to 6 Trekking the Coast - Villages of Morocco- (BLD)
Our trek continues for three days along the Atlantic shore, with excursions to slightly higher elevations to enjoy the superb views. Our second nights' camp is at an elevation of 150 feet, overlooking the beautiful beach. On the third day of our trek, we climb to a plateau at about 360 feet, cross the plateau and descend again to the beach, enjoying views of a picturesque village and a fleet of local fishing boats along the way. Part of our trek follows an old road high above the coast. Our final camping night is on a rocky part of the shore beneath steep cliffs.

DAY 7 - ESSAOUIRA (BLD)
Enjoy our final stretch of trekking along the beach, back to Essaouira, which we reach in time for lunch. After a scenic drive through the old city, we check-in at a comfortable hotel for dinner, and the night.

DAY 8 - MARRAKECH (BL)
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel , then we continue our drive North to Marrakech and lunch at a charming local restaurant , afternoon tour of the old medina and souks , sunset camel ride throughout the palmgrove on the edge of the city .

DAY 9 - Marrakech - Culinary Experience and a home hosted dinner (BLD)

This morning you'll ride through Marrakech in a horse-drawn carriage.
One of the special ways of understanding a culture is through its cuisines--not only sampling exotic tastes, but experiencing the preparation of dishes, how they figure in ritual and ceremony, and how they have grown out of the earth and traditions, we'll proceed to the Ecole Hotelière, Marrakech's own hospitality & Culinary Academy and training school, for a demonstration of the preparation of pastry-style doughs. We'll stay for a lunch of salads, tagine of Maghdour kebab, and refreshing fruits.

Later, we'll call on you to take you for your sunset camel ride, in the 13,000 acres of palm groves around Marrakech. You'll finish the day with a memorable experience of Moroccan hospitality, dinner in the home of a Marrakech family in the old Medina.

Complimentary Dinner is included at a local home:
Meet the locals
,
you may wish to bring token gifts to exchange with the host family ( T shirt , small souvenirs of your home town):
This evening we'll venture where few ordinary visitors ever tread . . . right into the homes of some of the people of Marrakech l! You'll be invited to a family dinner, and while you enjoy wholesome home-cooked specialties, you'll learn about and appreciate the outlook, aspirations, and way of life of your hosts. Be assured, as curious as you may be about your new friends, they're sure to have questions about your own background. Once the ice is broken, you'll enjoy a lively evening, and find that you have more in common than you ever suspected. Of course, you may enjoy a quiet evening with your travel companions, by letting us know your preferences.
