The treasures of Egyptian art and culture are spread throughout
the world, so we've devised a way for you to see them. Stop
in London to see the Rosetta Stone and other Egyptian treasures
at the British Museum, then by-Speed Train the Eurostar across
the Channel Tunnel to Paris. Then fly off to Egypt for
a week's tour, including a five-day cruise up the Nile. Round-trip
international airfare between JFK, London, Paris and Cairo is
included in our very competitive tour rates.
DAY 1 - JFK Saturday
Board your comfortable wide body jet at JFK International Airport.
DAY 2 - LONDON Sunday
In London! We welcome you to a 3- or 4-star hotel. Make your way to
your hotel, you may wish to try the new "Heathrow Express
" direct train service from Heathrow to Paddington Station
in the heart of London, for about $25 one way. Settle
in, and enjoy this world-renowned cultural and entertainment destination.
DAY 3 - LONDON, Monday (cB)
Enjoy continental breakfast at your hotel--before heading out (own
activities) : A must-see: the Rosetta Stone, discovered by
Champollion in 1822, which provided the key to understanding
ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic writing. It's on display in the
British Museum, along with mummies, embalmed crocodiles, papyrus
scrolls, and hundreds of other priceless Egyptian works of art in the
Upper Egyptian Galleries.
DAY 4 - LONDON & PARIS (cB) Tuesday
Enjoy another continental breakfast--at your hotel, then make your way
to the station to board the Eurostar for the 3 hour ride.
Our staff will meet you at the train station in Paris and escort
you to your three-star boutique hotel near the Champs-Elysees.
Refresh yourself, then head out into the city with your Lonely
Planet guidebook, provided to you at no extra cost as part of
your tour.
DAY 5 - PARIS (B) Wednesday
Today our half-day city tour shows you the top sights of Paris, including
Place de l'Opera, Place de la Concorde, Champs Elysees, Arc de Triomphe,
Trocadero, the Eiffel Tower (with admission to the first level),
La Bastille, and the Cathedral of Nortre Dame. Then we take you
on a short cruise down the Seine through the heart of Paris.
In the afternoon, take your Lonely Planet guidebook and explore
the lesser-known sights on your own, choosing as you like. We'll
be happy to help with tips and suggestions.

DAY 6 - PARIS & CAIRO (B) Thursday
We escort you to the airport for your flight eastward across Europe,
the Mediterranean to Cairo (on Egyptair). Our representative
greets you at Cairo's international airport, helps you with formalities,
and accompanies you to your hotel. Settle in, then perhaps take
a walk to get your first look at the great Egyptian capital.
Visa
will be issued upon arrival.
As you exit the gate, you will pass through a door or two , down some
stairs , then walk for 2-5 minutes , until you pass the duty free shops,
at the end of a wide corridor , you will see the security officers. There
you will be met by a local representative, who will be holding a sign
with the name you prefer to use for the sign .
Our local representative will then take your passport to obtain a stamp
from the cashier / bank window and escort you to speak with the passport
officer. He will escort you through another last check on your passport
as you exit the passport control, into customs area, he will assist you
in collecting your luggage and clearing customs . After exiting the terminal,
our local representative will escort you (private vehicle) to the hotel
DAY 7- CAIRO, Friday (BLD)
Today we show you the top sights: the treasure-filled Egyptian Museum,
the awesome Pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx, the Citadel of
Saladin, and the Mohammed Ali Mosque, made of creamy alabaster.
Evening transfer to board the overnight sleeper train to Luxor.
Dinner is served on board, always private compartment.
DAY 8 - LUXOR, Saturday (BLD)
We reach Luxor and settle into our cabin aboard our luxury air-conditioned
Nile cruiser, then go back onshore to explore the huge Temple of
Luxor and the truly gigantic Great Temple of Amon at Karnak.
Relax as you like in the evening, perhaps take a stroll along
the Nile or explore Luxor's lively bazaar. It's up to you.
DAY 9 - LUXOR & ESNA, Sunday (BLD)
Crossing the Nile, we tour the magnificent tombs in the Valley of the
Kings , the great Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and the Colossi
of Memnon. After a shipboard lunch, our cruiser glides up the
Nile toward the Esna locks, where we dock for the night.
DAY 10 - ESNA & EDFU, Monday (BLD)
We continue our cruise, passing timeless Nile-side villages until we
reach Edfu, where we board horse-drawn carriages to clip-clop
through the town. Our goal is the grand Temple of Horus, the
best-preserved ancient temple on the Nile. After our temple tour, we
return by carriage to our cruise vessel and continue upriver,
docking at Kom Ombo for the night.

DAY 11 - KOM OMBO & ASWAN, Tuesday (BLD)
We begin our day by touring the famous Twin Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated
to Horus (the sun God) and Sobek (the crocodile God). The sun
disc symbol is prominent, as is a tomb for mummified crocodiles!
Then we re-embark for the cruise to Aswan. After a leisurely
shipboard lunch, we board a traditional Felucca for a sail among
the rocky islands below the Nile's First Cataract. If you're
interested, we'll take you on a mini-camel caravan to a Nubian village.
Late in the afternoon we sail back to our Nile cruiser for dinner
and a good night's sleep.
DAY 12 - ASWAN & CAIRO, Wednesday (B)
After breakfast, we check out of our Nile cruiser and head off to see
the great Aswan High Dam, a technological marvel of its time.
From the dam we go to an ancient Pharaonic rock quarry where
a huge obelisk of red Nile granite lies unfinished--as though
the workers put down their tools just yesterday, rather than
thousands of years ago. Finally, we tour the beautiful Temple of Philae,
saved from the rising waters of Lake Nasser by an international rescue
effort and rebuilt on its own Nile Island. A short flight returns
us to Cairo, and our hotel.
DAY 13 - CAIRO Thursday (B)
Day at leisure maybe to explore the bazaars of Kahn El-Khalili for souvenirs.
(If you'd like to spend additional days in Cairo, we'll be happy
to arrange it at a reasonable cost.)
DAY 14 - USA, Friday (B)
After breakfast, our local rep escorts you to the Airport, to board
your flight back to the USA. Bon Voyage.
